[256] Anton Goetz came to the United States when he was 16 years old. The 1880
census shows him as residing as a laborer in the Michael Matern home along
with his brother John. Anton and Theresa farmed in Illinois for 17 years
following their marriage. They moved to the Goetz homestead 2 miles NW of
Wesley, IA in 1902 where they farmed until retirement in Wesley in 1927.

[28] Theresa and Anton Goetz were the parents of Father Fidelis Goetz OSB a priest
at Conception Abbey, Conception, MO.
Theresa and Anton are buried in St Joseph's Cemetery, Wesley, IA

[363] The following is an excerpt from the Biography of Edward Goetz and other
information supplied by the Archives of Conception Abbey in Conception.MO:
Edward J Goetz was born on April 28, 1887, the second son of Anton Goetz, a
young Alsatian Farmer who arrived in America in 1878, and Theresa (Wolf) Goetz,
a native of Mt Palatine, Illinois.
He came to Conception Abbey, Conception, Missouri, at the age of
twenty-five and professed as a Benedictine on September 1, 1913,
taking the name Fidelis. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 9, 1918.
Father Fidelis died on September 28, 1959 in the Des Moines, Iowa, bus
terminal. He was making connections from one bus to another while returning
to Conception Abbey after a two-week visit with relatives in Wesley, Iowa.
The funeral of Father Fidelis was held on October 1, 1959. Friends from
many towns he had served during his long priestly life were present. He was
Buried in the Abbey Cemetery at Conception, Missouri. Especially notable at
his funeral was a large contingent from Aholt and Glasgow, Missouri.

[364] Michael Goetz served in WW I. He never married. He was a Corporal in Co M
347th Infantry in WW I

nurse
